DIRECTOR’S STATEMENTThe year was 2025. It felt like we are living inside a futurist film imagined in the 1990s.
Only five years after COVID, the world once again seemed to be unraveling. The fires in Los Angeles, visible from my own window, and the re-election of Donald Trump cast a toxic black sky over daily life. We are living through a climate crisis, yet the systems driving extraction, profit, and environmental destruction continue to dominate our political and economic reality.
During that time, conversations with my friend Nina, who works with indigenous communities through the United Nations Development Programme, became a source of inspiration. I began to glimpse another way of understanding the world — one rooted not in exploitation and disconnection, but in memory, reciprocity, and balance sustained across generations.
She told me about a gathering of Indigenous elders along the East River in New York, where one elder stood and sang “A Song to Humanity.”
That moment became the beginning of a journey, an exploration of ancestral intelligence, resistance, and the possibility that the answers to our modern crises have existed all along.
